Profile Properties — Synchronization Conflicts

File Conflict

This option enables AllSync to recognize the following differences when dealing with files with the same name:
  • The size of the files is different.
  • The files possess a different modified date since the last sync operation.
  • The contents of two files are different (optional).
  • The files possess a different modified date and have been added since the last sync operation.
  • The source or destination file has been replaced by an older file.
  • The source file has been replaced by an older file and the destination file has been modified since the last sync operation.
  • The destination file has been replaced by an older file and the source file has been modified since the last sync operation.

These actions are available to you for dealing with a file conflict:

  • Don't perform any action
    This option causes neither of the two files to be copied.
    Show File Conflict dialog and ask which action is to be performed
    This option causes the File Conflict dialog to be displayed during a copy operation.
    Timeout
    This option enables you to specify the number of seconds after which the File Conflict dialog is automatically closed and no action is performed. You can also specify the number of timeouts after which the File Conflict dialog is to no longer be displayed.
  • Copy file from source folder
    This option causes the source file to be copied over the destination file.
  • Copy file from destination folder
    This option causes the destination file to be copied over the source file.
  • Create a copy of both files in the folder on the other side
    This option causes a duplicate of the source and destination file to be created in the folder on the other side.
    Format expression for the file name of copies:
    This enables the file name for duplicates to be specified.
    Default value: %1.{COPY}%2
    Example: data.{COPY}.txt
  • Rename source and destination file and create copy in the folder on the other side
    This option causes the source and destination files to be renamed and a duplicate to be created of each in the folder on the other side.
    Format expression for the name of the source file and its copy in the destination folder:
    This enables the file name of the source file and its duplicate in the destination folder to be specified.
    Default value: %1.{SOURCE}.%2
    Example: data.{SOURCE}.txt
    Format expression for the name of the destination file and its copy in the source folder:
    This enables the file name of the destination file and its duplicate in the source folder to be specified. Default value: %1.{DESTINATION}.%2
    Example: data.{DESTINATION}.txt
  • Rename source and destination file
    This option enables the source and destination files to be renamed.
    Format expression for the file name of copies:
    This enables the file name of the source and destination files to be specified.
    Default value: %1.{CONFLICT}.%2
    Example: data.{CONFLICT}.txt

The following placeholders can be used in file names:

Overwrite existing files with copy

This option enables you to specify that a file having the same name as the copy to be created is always overwritten.

Compare the contents of the source and destination files when no file conflict has been detected

This option enables the contents of two files to be compared as needed. A comparison of the contents is conducted only if no file conflict was detected beforehand. For other settings for comparing the contents of two files, see File Options – Content Comparison Method.

Compare the file size of the source and destination files when no file conflict has been detected

This option enables the file size of two files to be compared as needed. A comparison of the file size is conducted only if no file conflict was detected beforehand.

File Conflict Dialog

The File Conflict dialog enables various actions to be performed during a copy operation in the event that a file conflict is encountered.

File

The name and folder of the source and destination file are shown here. The following buttons are available:
  • Compare Files — Opens both files with the specified compare program
  • Open File — Opens the source or destination file
  • Open Folder — Opens the source or destination folder in Windows Explorer
  • Properties — Shows the file properties of the source or destination file

Info

A description of the file conflict is given here. In addition, various items pertaining to the source and destination file are shown in a table:
  • File Size
  • Attributes
  • Date Modified
  • The modified date from the reference list
  • Date Created

What action is to be performed?

This enables you to specify which action is to be performed for this file conflict. The following actions are available:
  • Don’t copy anything
  • Copy source file
  • Copy destination file
  • Create copies
  • Rename source and destination file and create copies
  • Rename source and destination file
If there are other conflicts, don't ask any more and always perform last action
This option causes the File Conflict dialog to not be displayed for the remainder of the copy operation and the action last selected by you to be performed.

Structure Conflict

This option enables you to prevent files and folders from being recreated when they have been deleted, moved or renamed at the source or destination since the last sync operation. This option causes any files or folders of the same name on the other side to be automatically deleted providing they have not changed since the last sync operation. Otherwise they are recreated in the folder on the other side. Structure conflict detection can be individually activated for files and folders and additionally limited to the contents of source or destination folders.
  • Source + Destination
    When a file has been deleted in the source or destination folder, this same file is also deleted in the folder on the other side as well.
  • Source
    When a file has been deleted in the destination folder, this same file is also deleted in the source folder as well. When a file has been deleted in the source folder, this same file is NOT deleted in the destination folder and is recopied to the source folder.
  • Destination
    When a file has been deleted in the source folder, this same file is also deleted in the destination folder as well. When a file has been deleted in the destination folder, this same file is NOT deleted in the source folder and is recopied to the destination folder.

Reference List

File and structure conflicts can't be detected unless you have performed at least one copy operation using the profile. After a copy operation AllSync stores a reference list of all the files and folders for the next sync operation in a file called profile_name.ar2. The reference list can be reset as needed using the Reset Reference List button.

Master for Deleting Files and Folders

This option enables all files and folders to be deleted that aren't present in the specified master folder.
Master:
  • Source
    This causes all items to be deleted at the destination that aren't present at the source
  • Destination
    This causes all items to be deleted at the source that aren't present at the destination
  • Source + Destination
    This causes all items to be deleted at the destination that aren't present at the source and all items to be deleted at the source that aren't present at the destination
